Does anyone know how to hide a seam on a costume? Particularly, seams
that have zippers.

We need more details in order to be able to help you. What kind of
costumes are you making? For what purpose (theater, cabaret,
re-enactment, costume party)? What kind of fabric will you be using?
Patterned or plain?

For instance, some people are experts at invisible zippers for special
occasion dresses, but I personally wouldn't touch them for stage use.

If you get back to us with more info, someone on here is sure to be able
to help.

Hiding zips is easy - you put a concealed one in a seam and hide the tag
in one of several places depending on the seam position. However, zips
in anything other than the lightest costume for the lightest use is
anathema to costume makers. Especially don't put them in anything fitted!

Hiding seams is possible if the pattern on the fabric is the right sort:
it takes painstaking work with pattern and pile matching.

I'm with you there! Ballet tutus have hooks and eyes for good reason.

Indeed. More details will result in better advice.

Well, I am planing on having some private use costumes using mainly
matterial that has hair or fur. This is being made for someone special
order, and I am not quite sure how to fit their needs.

Zips won't show in fur fabric if put in carefully. Nor will seams, so
long as you don't catch the pile too much, and brush it over the seamlines.

You can probably use ordinary heavy duty coil zips or plastic teeth zips
in a matching colour. You don't want to put a concealed zip in fur
fabric as the pile will be too close for the zip to operate properly.
