Hi, I am on my way to Seattle next week. Any good fabric shops near
downtown?

Can't personally vouch for any of these, but:

Pacific Fabrics is a fabulous store. Their big outlet store is at 2230
4th Avenue S, just a little bit south of Qwest and Safefo Fields, very
close to downtown. They've got their own parking lot off the street.
It's in an oooold warehouse, the floors are all rippled and uneven,
and there's fabric stashed everywhere. They've got an amazing range of
fabrics, and while you won't find any $1 a yard fabrics, most of the
fabric is reasonably priced. Pacific Fabrics is Seattles premier
independent fabric company. Check out their website:
www.pacificfabrics.com

Seattle Fabrics is primarily outdoor and marine fabrics. Unless you
need a lot of awning canvas, or want to make a cover for your yacht,
you don't need to go there.

Hancock Fabrics is filing Chapter 11 - they've already closed several
of the Seattle area stores. I don't know if any are left open. If they
are, there won't be much left on the floor.

JoAnns is JoAnns. You seen one, you seen 'em all.

Stick with Pacific Fabrics - you won't be disappointed (they've got
several stores around the Seattle area, but the outlet store on 4th
Ave S is the largest and closest to downtown).

Nancy's Sewing Basket always has *really* nice fabric at the Puyallup Sew Expo;
it's a little N of downtown, near Lake Union, and should be fairly easy by
public transit, I would think.

I've not been to their store, but I've had several people in the Seattle area
who sew tell me they have even nicer stuff in the store than makes it to
sew expo.

Beads and Beyond, should you find yourself in Bellevue for some reason,
has wonderful Czech glass buttons. Picture of some of her stock here,
about 2/3 down the page, on the left:

Nancy's has very beautiful fabrics but pricy. Buses #3,4 and 13 from
downtown on 3rd Ave. going north will get you there. Actually, the
Portland area has better fabrics than we do.
