The latest Big Dress pattern and toile are cut out and ready to sew.
The new cutting table has been thoroughly tested and found excellent!
:) I did take pix...

This is for the tall bridesmaid. There will be a dress diary: I hope
that the bride, the lass, and the pattern people allow me to publish the
pix of their stuff. For those who want to see the pattern, it's from
http://www.weddingpatterns.com Look for Audrey.

This is fun - only now I need to sew it together, so I have to tidy up
more of the sewing room tonight!

Kate:
The dress is lovely. I was surprised at the
long train for a bridesmaid. My friend was at
wedding recently and the bride's mother had a
train too. Is that a new trend?

That pattern site has really lovely basic
gowns. They seem to have 'good bones' ... not
sure how else to say that.

I would like to see fewer strapless or
otherwise bare bridal gowns, especially at
church weddings, but I know the bare look is
the current bridal fashion trend.

Now, tell us about your new cutting table!

Seems to be the current fashion, particularly for evening weddings.

Yup - that's what I thought. And you should just see the pattern! Hand
drawn on dot&cross, with 12 pages of instructions and a further booklet
of special techniques for those of lesser experience. :)

I like the bare shoulder look for the evening. You are right though, I
think sleeves are better for day and church. I quite like the
lace/sheer shrug for that, but they really only suit the most slender
figures: anyone with fleshy shoulders or a larger than B cup bust really
needs to be careful. They can really emphasize those areas!

I did, didn't I? In case you missed it, DH bought me a set of trestles
form Aldi: heavy duty metal, and a bit industrial, but cheap! Then
Auntie Mo Next Door replaced her tatty pine dining table, so I snagged
that and for cutting I have the top on the trestles, which we can make
up to counter top height. I butt the table end against the breakfast
bar in the conservatory and suddenly there's a 10 foot or more long
cutting table at just the right height! :)

I kept the table legs, and we can screw the thing back together if we
ever need a second dining table or third garden table that will seat 8
if they are friendly.

Pat, the train thing is big in proms, too. My personal theory on trends
like this is that they derive from movie stars' gowns, at the Oscars, etc.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it! :)

The bridesmaid is stigmatised by her height! Since I have always been on
the less than tall side, I am very amused by this description! She'd
probably be normal height in Australia. I'm 5'3", which seemed normal in
England but here I'm like a midget. 6' for women isn't unusual here. The
bridesmaid can have the fabric that I have to cut off when shortening just
about all clothes that I buy.
