I bound a friend's "crochet" cardigan with a silky synthetic and a serger --
cut the bindings like I was doing a "french fold" quilt binding. Looked
nice, went together easily.

If you find you want more stability, consider a neutral tulle or organza
and an underlining construction. Her cardigan kept growing during wear,
so I took it apart and underlined it with a very light organza and solved
that problem.

I made one "crochet" type cotton shirt, but used a matching linen for the
skirt. I underlined all of it except the sleeves with the same fabric as I
made the skirt. I love the mix and have had many compliments on the outfit.
