You might find the problem if you will just get the manual and turn to the
bobbin page. Now look at each small section of the picture and then look at
the machine. I one had a Singer, drop in bobbin and a small metal spring to
the right of the bobbin kept jumpin out of place. It was a simple matter to
use a small stick to push it back in place. This drove me nuts until I
figured out just what it was doing!

Thanks. Replacing the bobbin housing assembly fixed the problem.

Congratulations on fixing your wife's machine! This has long been one of
my favorite Singers and I'm always glad to hear of someone who is still
using theirs.
