I was browsing to find better directions for my 6 panel skirt. I wasn't
sure as to figure out just exactly how wide to make the bottom of each
panel. I found this site very helpful. It explains how to figure width
and gives you a place to plug in your numbers and comes up with your
yardage and measurement to draft each panel. It is going to be a big help
to me. Take a look. > http://homepage.ntlworld.com/crispin.roche/panels.htm

Many thanks, Juno. Now that I've acquired all kinds of knit fabrics from my
cousin's friend, I have been anxious to sew them, but it has been years
since I have sewn any type of knit fabric. There is one piece that I think
will make a nice summer skirt for a DD.

Your welcome. what I like the best about the site is that it works with
real world measurements.

Super cool! I love those online calculators.

(You do know about the pattern drafting books online at
http://www.vintagesewing.org, don't you?)

Dear Juno,

Depending on how wide you want the hemline, you can use a straight
skirt pattern to make your gores. The correct positioning for the
seam is the dartline, front and back. If there are two darts front
and/or back, combine them, then draw a straight line down to the hem
at the point of the dart. Then you can flare out the entire gore by
slashing and spreading each one. That would give you the look of the
website you cited. Or, if you want just the lower part of the skirt
flared, slash across the pattern where you want the flare to start,
and spread the hem, keeping the slash the same size.
