Other wise known as how I spent my summer.
Just to let you all know in-between working hard on day and night markets, I
have had a very cathartic summer.

I don't know if you remember but I keep my stash in an old caravan, well
........... the mice moved in Aghhhh!! my big phobia is mice Urk. So I took
advantage of Mum and Dad being here and Dad and DH emptied every single
grotty stinky horrid box. Medals for courage were awarded instantly.

After the inital demousing if I am allowed to call it that, Mum and I and
the washing machine set to work. I have to say that Mum did most of the
sorting and washing Two large packs of cheap washing powder have been used.
Of course the ironing was also without end, I am talking about a whole
caravan full.

I now have twelve large 70 litre boxes with tight fitting lids and enough
fabric to fill twelve more boxes, which I am off to buy on thursday, boxes
not fabric.

It has been like finding old friends in some cases, only one piece that I
can't actualy work out where it came from and several awful pieces. Mum did
object to washing and ironing some of my choicer savings ie. a dustbinliner
full of scraps 1 to 2 cms big, well you never know when I might have the
urge to do crazy patchwork!!!!

I found five meters of lovely wool in a beige colour that has to go to the
drycleaners and thats the only outstanding item that hasn't been cleaned up.
I had this piece earmarked for a winter coat but I am not sure how much of
it is damaged I will have to wait for the cleaning.

Downside to this is that Dh now has a fair idea how much stash I have, what
do you mean you need more !!!
Upside is that I now know how much stash I have and I have been able to
resort it in a different ways, pieces that I had put away to make
waistcoats for example have now been put to make bags, dresses etc and a
lovely bit of curtaining has now been designated to make table runners for
the stall at christmas time. Better go and buy some linning tho'

All in all it was a good experience apart from the mice. Gold medal for my
Mum and her ironing.

Mouse Wars! We had them when the cats brought in take-away snacks to
save for later! Luckily (?!?) they holes up on a dry food cupboard
rather than the stash. I just chucked the food and replacement stuff
went into plastic boxes.

Hurray and well done!

My mum wouldn't do all that without making off with some choice bits of
stash. It's true! She's not above a stash raid on her own flesh and
blood. I suppose with twenty four 70 litre boxes' worth, you might not
even notice if she raided a bit!

:)

Congratulations!

With the mice decorations, they didn't look so choice. actualy she did put a
piece of blue linen by and some soft denim to make shorts but has left them
behind. they left for the Uk on Mon so I will post them ASAP. Mum has to
make shorts for her holiday on Sept 1st, being here is no holiday believe
me.

Mum and Dad are off on a romantic 2 weeks for their 40th wedding anniversary
and I am very glad they are having a real holiday too, especialy as they
were 'given' my 3 year old niece to bring with them when they came here this
year!! My sister has a lot to answer for ! 5 weeks with a 3 year old has not
been easy for Mum and Dad, even more gold stars are deserved I think.

I sympathize. We live in a turn of the century building and the mice have
moved in. They have really nibbled on the small sofa in our living room.
You should have seen the holes when I took the cushion of to vacuum.

So far the stash is safe, but I really want to get an exterminator in here.
David isn't so sure, I think he is waiting for the cats to do their job. And
he's worried about traps or poison, thinking the cats might get into it.
