Today, I visited my local JoAnn fabrics for the first time, and it will be a
long time before I set foot in that store again. There were 2 clerks
cutting and one at the register. There was 1 person in line in front of me
and 2 at the other cutting table. The woman cutting fabric in front of me
was doing it as slowly as she possibly could, almost as though it was a
protest against understaffing on the part of the store manager. After 15-20
minutes waiting, she cut my fabric, also slowly, without any pleasant
conversation at all. When I went to check out, the cashier had disappeared
and there were 2 people already waiting. After about 10 minutes, the other
clerk who was cutting tried to take the register but was firmly told by the
first slowpoke that she, herself would take the register. She slowly made
her way there, again, taking as much time as possible and straightening up a
few items along the way. Argggghhh!!!!
I then went to Hancock fabrics and received excellent service, where they
always have a cashier.
I haven't lived here in 15 years but is this representative of all their
stores? It will have to be a dire emergency if I ever go to that store
again.

Well, see, there's your mistake right there...it's now JoAnn
*CRAFTS*. They could not care less about the fabric side of the
business. I MISS REAL FABRIC STORES! <cough> sorry for
shouting...
When I sent out to get more of the purple panne velvet, the store
where I bought the original piece had *none* left. So I went to
the store about 6 miles south, where we bought the spider-web
stuff, and they had 2.3 yards. (I need 5.875 yards).
So I went to the "JoAnn's Super Center" about 7 miles north, and
they had two bolts...one had _two_ 1.75 yard pieces on it, and
the other had _three_ 1.5 yard pieces. <sigh> I decided to take
a chance that the dye lots would not be too dissimilar (and this
*is* for a costume), and bought four pieces. The clerk was nice,
though she ran all of it in as 'remnants" so I got $4.99/yard
fabric (on sale for $2.99/yard) for $1.50/yard. Now, if I can
just squeeze the cape out of all those pieces....

I can't wait to see the outfit (costume).
I bought felt today to make poodle skirts for my elementary school kids.
Their school is having a 50's day next week, and I bought some beautiful
Fall fabric for a table runner and placemats so that I can stick a pumpkin
on my dining table. Now to find the time to get started...

I made a pink felt poodle skirt for my niece several years ago,
my DGD has it now. If only you were a little closer, I could
save you some sewing.

Isn't that the truth. Instead of working on the costume today, I
ended up sewing out several "western" embroidery motifs for my
older DD, she is working on graphics for some scrapbooking
packages she sells on CDs. Ah, well, there's always tomorrow....
