One BIIIIIG project finished and out the door, to my delight and the
speechless wonder of the customer! :) Miss Havisham's wedding gown is
done! PHEW! We had a couple of marathon fitting/creative sessions, and
yesterday afternoon, a last minute panic replacement of the airbrush coz
it busted (blew its lid!) during colour testing! AARRGGHH! But no
really good projects go out the door without a few hitches along the
way... It's now had style alteration, fabric changes, Dylon and tea
dying sessions, two remakes, and is a glorious success! It has 'burns',
holes, smudges, rents, and 'dead' roses (not so much 'distressed' as
taumatized by being bathed in acryllic paint that dried in a truly
realistic and slightly leprous spotted finish!). It got made, hand
finished, and wreaked! One of the test pieces made us giggle: it came
out more like Tutenkamun's bandages than Miss Havisham's frock! Oops!
Tea too strong! Sorry, but there will be no pix of the finished item
for public consumption: the customer has vetoed this for personal
reasons, and I fully sypmathise with her, so tough! Your imaginations
can fill in for once! I do have pix for my portfolio, but not, alas,
for my friends here.
The purple/lilac frock also delighted the customer, and the jacket and
bag go out tomorrow evening. I shall get to work on Version 4 of the
bag after lunch!
The wedding dress is also done and goes out tomorrow: for that I just
need the promised velvet ribbon to do the sash. The flower Sarah got
for it is beautiful: hand painted silk and velvet, and it looks like a
cross between a rose and a poppy! :) I shall take pix of the whole
ensemble before it goes out the door. I want to make a dress bag for it
this afternoon... Some of the sheeting used for Miss Havisham will do
nicely, I think! This one doesn't need top be light proof!
I still have some of the flowers from my silver wedding, though they are
now fading, and Alan brought me a lovely bunch of lilies and roses
yesterday. Miss Havisham also brought me carnations and roses, so I
have a huge jug full of gloriously scented blooms that makes the whole
house fresh, and makes me smile every time I pass them. :)
I'm off to me mum's for a few days rest on Sunday, to gather my strength
before James gets home next Thursday. I miss him, but it's been nice to
have the clear days to finish off the projects without having to worry
about feeding him at regular intervals! I shall take a few projects to
Mum's with me to catch up on: T shirts and the like! Luckily I only
need to take an overlocker with me as I can use her little Singer for
the rest. I have several T shirts cut out for a friend, and a pair of
gouchoes, plus a T for me... That'll keep me out of mischief when Mum
is busy! ;P And if I don't get them done, there's no problem - later
will do fine.
In the autumn there's the prospect of a velvet cloak for Christmas, and
I've had an enquiry about some bridesmaid dresses for October... Then
there's a MOG suit to be designed and made for March... And the vague
possibility of some costumes for next summer! Keep a couple of fingers
twisted in the background for that one: it could be quite a biggy!

Wow, Kate what a huge portfolio you must have! I'm very
disappointed that "we" don't get to see the Miss Havisham
dress. :-( But I can understand your customer's desire for
privacy.
It's so nice you will have a visit with your mother, and
'tho I know you miss him, not having James underfoot for a
bit makes for a nice break. You and Alan having a "second
honeymoon"?
;-)

The portfolio is varied rather than huge! It includes a couple or three
wedding dresses, some slinky stuff, and costumes of various sorts, like
the fairy with wings, the Kylie stuff, and the 71st Glasgow Highland
light Infantry jackets... Somew Elizabethan stuff, and plenty of
'ordinary' posh frockey. :)

Unfortunately not. Alan was away Tuesday-Thursday last week (missed
seeing James off as James went at 7 am and Alan got back at 9pm!),
Monday-Thursday this week, while I was madly busy finishing off Miss
Havisham, the purple confection, and the wedding dress, and will be away
Monday-Wednesday next week while I'm at Mum's. James comes back on
Thursday... I shall have a MOUNTAIN of washing to do! All his kit for
2 weeks at camp, plus sleeping bag, camp blanket, etc. plus all our
normal washing! The ironing pile will be an ironing mountain! I just
hope the weather's good enough to dry it all out on the line!

This week I am Queen of Last Minute Hitches!
Sarah's friend sent ribbon... Lovely colour, perfect for the frock, too
narrow... Neither she nor I like the idea of a join down the length of
the belt, so tonight she is bringing some grossgrain she hopes is the
right width... We'll trim that with the velvet and I'll work on it over
the weekend and while I'm at Mum's, for pick up next week! Talk about
sewing the last stitches as she walks up the aisle! ;)
Never mind! I have pix and will post them on my web site after the
wedding. Hopefully Sarah will send pix of her in the gown on the day,
with the right belt and flower, rather than my improvised ribbon and
cheapo mini-flower!
