And not just the weather!

The Regency customer is delighted with the Pantalettes and is letting me
finish them off how I wanted to, using some fairly vintage all cotton
broidery anglaise from the depths of the stash. I need to take up the
hems a bit (add about six more 1/4" tucks to the bottom edges!) and
adjust the waist. Petti needs a bit of adjusting too, but is otherwise
also to be finished off dead plain and simple.

Hat toiles were just to Victorian once they were on the head, so we are
starting afresh after a rest on that one... Hats. I do NOT make hats.
I fling things together until they work, but I do NOT make hats.
Again. ;)

She was so taken by the bit of vintage mercerised cotton I dug out of
the nether hells of the stash (it's damned hot up in the loft at this
time of year. Fabric comes out WARM! I'm convinced it stops the heat
getting IN in the summer and OUT in the winter!) to make her stuff that
I am dying another bit of slightly heftier cotton from the same Croft
Mill clearance raid to make her a summer dress for mundane wear and a
wrap. Yay for dotty customers! :D I adore this fabric, but had no use
for it. It's probably already spent 10 years in my stash, so it's time
a well loved eccentric darling got to wear it, dyed and plain! I think
it was part of one of those 'This mill is about to be demolished - clear
out the fabric before it ends up as landfill' jobs, and was woven in the
50's or 60's. I can probably still get a similar quality from Acorn,
but theirs is only 36" wide, being made for the bespoke shirt industry.

I've had TWO inquiries via the HotHives Textile webite in the last 3
days. One I couldn't do: corset thing for 4th July - query came in on
SATURDAY! Sorry - this week filled with pantalettes and petticoats, a
day spent helping a friend sort out a dress pattern and cut a frock, and
a summer frock, plus an important and difficult letter to write, and
possibly the start of a kid's dance outfit (scarlet Lycra unitard with
Swarovski crystals!). No can do corset! The second HotHive one came in
this morning: maternity frocks. Not sure of the date on those... If
it's next week, I shall scream.

And last week I had to put together that huge proposal for 3 or 4
different levels of historical accuracy for a bride and seven
bridesmaids in Regency kit. I DO hope that one comes to fruition. It
would be wonderful to do 7 corsets and underpinnings followed by seven
Regency gowns.

To top it off, Friday was like a steam bath here: hot, dull, damp, and
threatening to thunder all day. Saturday was the same up to about 3pm,
when the heavens opened, water fell in bucketfulls, thunder crashed
right overhead, leaving the kitties cowering under chairs in the living
room, shivvering and with their ears all on end, and yhe water came in
the front door bay roof again and the paper is peeling off and the
carpet got soaked. Gah! I have rung the roof and gutter mending Nigel,
and he's coming to give us a quote on Wednesday evening.

Right now it's a warm 25 degrees centigrade in the living room. At
least the sun is shining today and I should get the washing dried!

I need to tidy up the sewing room so I can get sewing this afternoon.
Lots to do, so if I'm not here as much as usual, you'll know why!
