Greetings ... I have an old SEW-MOR that usually works great ... however, I
changed thread recently to a heavy weight. The bobin tension is "firm" but
not tight. I loosened it but it was too loose so I tightened it again to
the original tension. I increased the the upper thread tension and that
helped a bit but it's still not perfect.

Any thoughts?

Probably the thread is to heavy for the machine.
Home sewing machines will not sew at least well with upholstery weight
thread.

I'm not sure I can parse that sentence. My Montgomery Ward machine
sews very nicely with Guterman upholstery thread.
