It's called a 'cap iron' in English .

Yep, it's set about that distance.

For some reason the Adjuster nut isn't moving the blade out through the
mouth beyond the sole plate. I've now pulled it apart and will give it a
really good inspection tonorrow, but there was nothing really obvious to
explain the problem when I pulled it apart.

:-)) Not sure about that :-)) To compensate for my failure to get the
Plane to work, after I posted here, I went shopping at the local woodworking
shop and spent a gift certificate I won for an entry I put into a show in
January. I won first prize, got the gift certificate and a big fat blue
ribbon for a laminated and steam bent hat stand I made.
