For some reason the are all rare in this area. I've asked in the several
sewing machine stores in the area and always get the same answer, "We
never carry used Machines." Most of the Yard and Garage sales around
here are clothing and household items I have no use for. DH has the
theory that people go to garage sales, buy things and then have a garage
sale to get rid of them. The one Featherweight I heard about, was being
sold for almost $400. If I was going to pay that much I'd put a little
more to it and buy another new mechanical.
Joanne, We don't even have much in the way of thrift stores around here.
The problem is that this has been a big IBM , fairly upscale area and
now we are really starting to feel the pinch with so many layoffs. I
think we'll be seeing more in the way of thrifts. The consignment shops
have almost always carried very up scale clothes. I guess you could say
there have been a bunch of snobs around here.
Packing is a problem and that's why I don't look to Ebay for something.
I'll keep looking, I know something will turn up.

I do know a couple of people who sell - including on eBay - who are
famous for their great packing. If they have what you would like to
have at a price you'd like to pay.....isn't that the rub? Ha.

I used to have machines arrived totally trashed from the mail until I
started emailing Ebay sellers of machines I drooled over, sending them
the link to the "How to pack a sewing machine" web site and describing
how crushed I was when the sewing machine of my dreams ended up in
pieces, and asking if they would consider following the SM packing
insructions, and oh, I would be glad to pay a little extra if they would
take the extra care to pack the machine carefully. I found a number of
people who were glad to do this, and I praised them on feedback for
careful packing.

Sarah Viking came home today and is feeling much better. Now I can get
to work. Whew, I was getting withdrawal symptoms from not sewing
