This happened years ago, and I am talking about in the late 60s.

I offered to make a wedding dress for my then husband's cousin. No, I
wasn't paid for this. I had asked the bride-to-be to wear the same
foundation garments she planned to wear during the ceremony when I
fitted her. She came in excellent garments to give her a great shape.
(she was a bit overweight, but the garments took care of most of it).
Then when the day arrived, she wore just a plain bra, panties and slip.
Everything just look horrible....and everyone in the family knew I'd
made the dress. I knew what they were thinking and no one would dare
blame the bride for her part in 'the look'.

I've never offered to make a dress for anyone else... unless I was being
paid and warned them in advance about what they would look like if they
didn't abide by the rule.....wear the proper foundation garments to the
fitting and the event.

Thought some of you might recognize this situation.

What in God's name was she thinking? Did she ever come up with an
explanation? You poor thing, getting the blame for such a disaster...

Gods, yes! And I've had it the other way about... MoB never came to
fittings in her 'proper' undies, and then blamed me when shd tried it on
at home with her killer waist-shaper knickers, and surprize! the
waistband was too big!

So I now have it in my contract: REAL UNDIES OR ELSE! :P

For one horrendous example of that problem (not the bride,
one of the attendants), see:

B___h on the far right.

and again at the far left:

I made custom gowns for all attendants, AT NO Cost to them.
She showed up for measuring sans underpants, thought I
should measure OVER her jeans. Uh huh, for a straight
fitted skirt that'll work. NOT! She wore three different
bras, one for each fitting, and I adjusted the bodice three
times. Then she wore a fourth bra for the wedding. See
that perky, high bosom? No? In the wedding hers were about
2" lower than at the last fitting.

At one point on this group (I think it was this one) a dressmaker posted
and said that in the contract the wearer had to bring with her the
undies and shoes she was going to wear for the wedding. Then, the
poster *confiscated* said undies and shoes,, and kept them with the
dress until the final fitting, then packaged everything up together and
handed it over after the bill was paid.
