I need to make a grill cover in particular. What kind of fabric should
I use that does not weigh a ton but yet is strong, waterproof, and sun
resistant?

You can purchase UV resistant polyesters from places like www.owfinc.com

Polyesters in general are more sun resistant than nylons.

Another option is Sunbrella sun resistant acrylic, but it's too heavy to sew
on a home machine.

What a great site! And these people are so helpful too! I'm going to
use a Cordura-like polyester for the grill cover. Fun, fun, fun. :)

Depends on the home machine, I guess. We have done a lot of Sunbrella projects
on a home machine. Unfortunately, the last one, a large sail cover, killed the
machine. Just burned it out.
