I can't find info that I want.....

Can someone direct me in my search? I am trying to find out what kind of
embroidery machine I would need to be able to do my own designs on, or to
use company logo's (my DH'S). But also with designs already there or that I
can buy, like cute flowers or charactors.

DH says that the program he uses to create decals is the same one for
embroidery machines.......not sure if it is or not.......

What is this type of machine called, or does anyone reccommend a particular
machine (not 15,000 dollars, thats all I can find)?

TIA

Michelle Giordano

The lowest priced machine (that I know of) that will do all that is the
new Singer Futura and there is a good demo at

Forgot to mention. Most people start with an entry level machine, and wish
they had bought the next model up. Bear this in mind.

Janome make a lovely machine the 300E. It is purely an embroidery machine
and very reasonably priced.
http://www.janome.com/product_show.php

Other companies do similar machines, including Brother.

One thing to bear in mind is that a machine like the Janome uses flash cards
(such as you use in a camera) which are widely available, to download
designs from your computer to the machine. With many other brands you have
to use their own cards which are very expensive.

In addition, if you wish to embroider your own designs, you will need
embroidery software to do so, and all the leading sewing machine
manufacturers market their own. Prices range up to many hundreds of Dollars
or pounds.

There is a learning curve on all types, having said that, there are many
Yahoo groups offering support and help with learning these programmes.

The most reasonably priced software is Embird, which is excellent value for
money and a great company to deal with. Their site carries lots of free
tutorials. The basic programme is for editing designs and you can buy an
add on with which to digitize.

www.embird.com

It is best to try out as many machines as possible to find out which is the
most suitable for you.

Hope this is helpful.

G'day Michelle

I have to agree with everything Angela has said......I have two Janome
sewing/embroidery machines and more than happy with the results. The
300E (embroidery only) that Angela mentioned might suit you.....it
really depends how many machines you have now, and of course your budget.

But for my money it's Janome, the compact flash cards make life so much
simpler, I used to own a Janome 9000 (superseded now) and it had a
proprietary card, these were very expensive if wanting a 'spare' blank
card. My suggestion would be to get one of the more recent 'compact
flash card' models, either 10001 or 10000(upgraded)TOL
sewing/embroidery, 9500 (mono screen) 9700 (colour screen)... or 300E
embroidery only. Because the latest TOL model 11000 is currently being
released you might find a good secondhand machine from the models I've
listed, when someone is stepping up to the new model which has all the
bells and whistles. Janome (unlike some other makes) has an unbuilt
embroidery arm, not a separate module that needs to be
attached.....swapping from sewing to embroidery is as simple as touching
a button on the screen, swapping the foot and attaching your hooped fabric.

Embird is a good software package as it enables you to change the format
on designs you have downloaded from the internet, then it has various
add-ons that can be bought as needed, or as you progress.

Hope this helps? I know you'll probably get lots of suggestions for
machines because we all like what we own, otherwise why would we have
that make?

Why not join a couple of online groups and read through past messages
and you'll get an idea of what everyone has and what projects they are
making. These are just a couple of the Janome groups.....
