How much much fabric should I buy to have a thigh length mans sport
coat made to measure by a tailor?

I want to buy both crushed velvet and regular velvet for smoking
jacking type coats, although a bit longer length than normal.

Responses appreciated.

You don't provide enough information for an accurate response.
What size are *you*? How *wide* is the fabric? Here are a
couple of possible patterns for your project:

Vogue 2367 fabric requirements range from 2-3/8 yards to 3-7/8
yards, depending on size (32 to 48) and fabric width (45" or
60").

Vogue 7988 view C requires anywhere from 2-7/8 yards to 5-1/8
yards, again depends on *your* size, and the *width* of the
fabric.

Both of those pattterns show yardage for fabric with a nap, which
velvet has. Your *tailor* will be your best source of accurate
information, anyway. And he/she will also be your best guide on
interfacings, linings, buttons, shoulder pads, etc.

Beverly

I asked him the same questions when he posted this request for info over
on AGF. For whatever reason he's being weirdly cagey about providing
any additional info and yet expects you to put on your "mindreader hat"
and pull a figure out of thin air.

Y'know....I really love helping folks figure out projects, so do most of us
around here. But it just torques me when they don't "get" that I am not
Madame Sharona and can't hold the email to my head and give the answer.
lol

So sarp, if you can't give us an idea of what size man these jackets are
going on, don't ask us to figure it out for you. Go to the tailor you want
to make the jackets. Let him/her measure and then you will know how much
you need.

---yeah, I'm cranky today. It's 100* F and about 2000% humidity. It's
getting on my nerves.

The Great Carsini (darn, that's not right, but I can't ember the
name Johnny used for his soothsayer shtick) would probably be
able to give him/her an answer! ;-)

Yeah, that's what I told him/her, too, but looks like s/h/it is a
drive-by poster. :-(

ROTFLOL! So, you gave one of those handy garden-crystal coolers
in the works?

Beverly, very happy that the temps here have returned to a
sensible mid 70°s.
