I am making terry cloth (towels) bibs for an adult special needs adult. The
bib is made from a towel folded in half and a neck opening cut from the
center to allow the head to slip through. The edges are raw edges. Without a
serger, how would you suggest that I finish the edges on a 1+ sewing machine
without making the edges ruffle? Thanks, Wanda

I made several of these for a brother and an aunt, and I never made them for
front and back. I did make them double in the front, and used wide bias
tape to finish the edges. Sometimes it's possible to find tape with a
decoration on it.

Maybe you could use tape in a contrasting colour.

How About using ribbing, and make it like a tee shirt neck. I'd use a ratio
of 3" rib to 4" neckline.

My "shirt protectors" have a different design, but it is one you might
consider. The bib is made of a hand towel (or two) and I used a
complimentary cotton print in roughly a half-moon shape (squared off
where it meets the towel) which velcros behind his neck. We found this
is easier to get on and off. For some of them I put a novelty ribbon
across the junction of towel and "collar", which makes them fun.
Good luck!
