You may already know this, but it's worth posting for osmeone searching
via google

I've been trying to make helmet liners (dorag). I haven't had much
success. Friends have told me to tear one i like apart and copy it. No
way. It's sewn too nice to do that.

What I did today was to use painters tape (less tacky than regular
masking tape so easier to remove). I masked over each segment, removed,
and transferred to a brown paper bag. Added a 1/4" all around for seams
and whalah! A pattern of each piece needed to make a form fitting liner.
