As a follow-up to my previous post - you can find ready to wear lab
coats in 100% cotton. They aren't readily available in uniform shops,
but apparently are available from several sources online. It does look
like the cotton twill is the weight you would want.

I'll let my friend know he can get them on line and let him make the
