SO, I *finally got to meet with the restaurant owner today after
having to wait for her to get back from a trip, then the restaurant
opening, etc. SHe informed me (as did her day manager/bartender -
they open for lunch and dinner), that everyone has complimented the
cushions and window seat area (they added throw pillows in burgundy
and various shades of gold). YAY!!! We worked out how I will do the
valances, but we hit a snafu on the window hardware. I do NOT install
hardware, and the price for the hardware was not included in the
estimate, so...she needs to get what she wants. However, she isn't
sure what she needs now that we hashed out how she wants the
valances. Ok...I can run to Lowe's and get her some prices and write
everything down. Once i get that, I can give her a call and see if
she wants me to pick them up (for reimbursement, of course) or if she
wants to get them.

In the midst of all this, I'm dealing with another customer who wants
curtains for 2 windows at her son's hunting trailer, in camo, of
course..oh, and lined. ARGH...but but but...I haven't finished my
daughter's birthday present yet (princess dress in blue/pink/purple -
well, the overlay is all those colors). I'm looking at this as a
feast or famine situation. If I didn't have this work coming in, I'd
just be going through my stash and sewing things that the kids don't
need right this minute, so...and it does bring in a little money....

Ah well, thought I'de give a little update. Will post pictures of the
completed bag of tricks when everything is finished.

Some further advice:

Take any money for fabrics (or anything else) BEFORE you buy them!
Take a NON RETURNABLE deposit of 30% of the fees for making up
Insist on cash or cheque backed by a guarantee card for payment at the
time of pick-up/delivery. If you are delivering, don't go without it,
and if they are collecting, they leave WITHOUT the stuff if they
'forget' to bring cheque book and card!

Put this in the contract.

These folk sound good so far, but they will take advantage if you let
them. You are not a big corporation and cannot afford to wait 90 days
for payment.

Sounds like you are doing well, and this will be good 'advertizing' for
you if you want to do more of this sort of work. Well done.

I'm still procrastinating over mine... Please administer soft boot to
rear! ;)

Sounds great Larisa!
I am with you on not doing hardware. That could be a big headache. Don't
they have a handyman or maintenance guy? You may just be getting more work
soon.
