Well, the communion dress went out the door last night. Used lace
from mother's wedding dress as an over-skirt, dress was sleeveless
with a cowl neckline, and we added an iridescent white ribbon so that
the transition from plain bodice to lace skirt wasn't so noticeable.
Mom has promised me pictures when she has them done, so once I get
them from her, I will post a link to them.

This started out rather scary for me because the original intent was
to use great-grandmother's head-covering on the cowl (mustard yellow)
and try to dye mother's lace to match. Oh, did I mention that the
little girl is a very pale blonde?? In the end, it was decided to use
the head-covering to cover a prayer book or missal, so that took a lot
of stress off me. Then of course, was the craft fair in the middle of
construction.

I tried to work an hour at a time because that was as long as I could
deal with slippery, white fabric and mother's lace before I got all
nervous - plus, that was about when my hands would start sweating and
I didn't want ick all over the dress.

Anyway, it's done and mom and daughter both love it, so I'm pretty
happy.

Now I get to move on to either a knit ChettaB dress for myself or
start on my first pair of jeans....or maybe cut out the pieces I need
to make the Mariner's Compass quilt that has been planned for over a
year.

Congratulations on producing a dress mother and daughter
liked, as well as using the precious old fabric so well.

Make the dress for YOU next! You deserve the break.
