I have a plain grey vest that I would like to embellish. I need ideas
and please remember that I'm a newbie. The vest looks exactly like the
one in this picture except that it's a very dull grey and it doesn't
have any pockets.

One idea I have is to glue a rhinestone in each of the squares. I
haven't done anything like this before. Will the rhinestones stay put
or will they fall off? Is there a special glue I need to use? Which
size of rhinestones should I buy so that it's not too overwhelming. any
other ideas are also very appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,
I have only used the iron-on rhinestones. They do stay on if the iron is
hot enough. But I am afraid that would melt the batting in the vest. WHy
not try some appliqués? They make some very nice ones that look like
embroidery. I use www.cheeptrims.com but they only sell in packages. Still
you may get some ideas there. NAYY. Or your local fabric stores may have
them.
Good luck!

If you want to glue rhinestones, it is easy. I have done quite a bit
of this and I use a glue called Gem-Tac, which is widely available in
crafts and fabric stores. I would use a size ss20 rhinestone, but I
don't think you would want to put one in every single square...it would
be overwhelming. You could glue rhinestones on the top part of the
vest, sort of like a yoke. You also might want to consider adding some
braid (with or without rhinestones) alongside the zipper, maybe around
the neck, and/or the hem. Buy some braid you like and pin it on to see
what you like. There are so many different styles of braids you can
choose from, you can either make it dressy or sporty, or whatever. Use
your imagination and have fun.
