Sorry in advance if this is not an appropriate question for this forum.
Is it possible to buy a stuffed animal and bring it somewhere to
have something (like a name or picture) stitched/embroidered on it
without having to unstuff it? Where would I do this? Is it call
embroidery? I am thinking about doing it by hand, and then I think
about my hand and wonder if I can pay a machine to do it. :)

You could probably take it to someone to do it by hand. You could also
probably do it yourself, if you are nifty with a needle, and have the
time. But, I've yet to see a machine that could do this, without taking
the stuffing out. I have to ask though, why not get it unstuffed? Ten
extra minutes (IMO) is well worth a better look. Oh, and yes, it is
called embroidery still. ;-)

We've got a store in the next city called "The Embroidery Zone," and the
owner has a boatload of industrial strength embroidery machines there,
and I swear she has hoops for embroidering anything under the sun....
Maybe theres a similar type of store near you?

We wrote on 'em with permanent markers when I were a lad. Well, when
my older sisters were teenagers. Anyone else remember "autograph
hounds"? These were broadcloth dachshunds that all your friends wrote
on.

You can't have a pre-stuffed animal embroidered unless it's done by
hand, which would be expensive and might still be unsatisfactory,
since that's doing it the hard way. But you could have one painted or
stenciled.

The above message is a Usenet post.
I don't recall having given anyone permission to use it on a Web site.

Or add an embroidered bit of "clothing". Not sure what kind of
animal OP has in mind, but I've seen stuffed animals with all
kinds of clothes.
