i have a wedding to attend in late April. since the mother of

the bride insists no, i can't weat jeans <g> i need to make
something suitably glam.
i have Vogue 1290 (from 1999) that i think will work.
http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/V1290.htm?search=1290&page=1
i'm not crazy about the V neckline, but... i'd be making the
view c dress & the pants (maybe the blouse too, because i get
chilly easily & April in upstate NY can be either pleasantly
warm or freezing...) i would most likely do the dress in silk
velvet (burnout if i have time). the suggested material for
the pants are novelty georgette or chiffon, with georgette or
chiffon underlining. in the photo they appear to be lace over
a sheer.
so, where can i find novelty georgette, preferably silk. or
would silk velvet work for the pants as well?
any suggestions for changing the neckline or filling it in a
bit also gratefully accepted.
thanks!

Dear Lee,
It's a lovely pattern, and the neckline really isn't that low. You
can always raise it by drawing straight up the center front for an
inch or so, and making it higher. Don't forget to adjust the facing
as well.
Try Thai Silks for your fabrics. If you have time, they'll send
swatches so you can see what you're ordering. Fashionfabricsclub.com
has a lot of dupioni, but I don't think I've seen silk velvet there.
Thai Silks will have that, too.

Gorgeous, really. I agree about the neckline, but what about a scarf
made from the same silk as the trousers? Then if it's chilly, you can
just wrap it around your neck, letting it cover the "V".
