I noticed that some stores sell those cute baby buntings, that zipper up the
front, in a sleeveless style. I was told that had something to do with
SIDS. Is this correct? I have a bunting pattern, with sleeves, and plan to
make these zippered cuties out of a double knit and also fleece. Does
anyone know if this will be a problem?

Nope, no problem at all. The buntings replace blankets, which the baby
can get caught in. The ones at the store also had zippers that zipped
from the top to the bottom. I think this was so that an older baby
couldn't try to undo the zipper, and also, if you have to change the
baby, you would only have to unzip the bottom. These were great BTW.
Used them with both my DDs. The knit ones are good for cooler spring and
fall nights, the fleece for winter.

I used the sleeveless kind for my baby. He wore a creeper underneath. I
think if it had sleeves it would've been too hot, and he would've
outgrown it faster.

The SIDS association in Australia says it is ok to use the sleeping bag type
clothing (is this what you call bunting?) instead of blankets. The main
concern is that the baby doesn't become overheated. I used a fleece one for
our daughter as she could never stay between the covers!

Thanks for your input, I purchased stretch terry which should be cooler than
the fleece.
