I'm really looking for a simple method to hold a blouse together mid-
section with a frog, or something similar. I came up with the idea of
sewing two buttons together, one of which would go through the button
hole. Then I thought a simple loop-de-loop from the opposite attached
button to the fake button would hold it together. For the life of me
I don't know how to do this. Years ago they had links with clips on
either side with which up cinched the back of a blouse, and this would
be ideal except it was shortlived and no one knows whereof I speak.
Wish I knew how to crochet!

Do you mean something like these?

You can make these with two buttons or earrings and a short piece of
chain, too. Just grab your needle-nosed pliers.

This site has links to making Chinese button knots (AKA
frogs):

Not all of the links are active, but you might find
something useful there.
