Hello, I am new to the group and I have a question.
At our local Jo-Ann Fabrics they will be selling what they call Singer heavy
duty school model sew and serge machines. No model number listed. Has anyone
heard of these or used one? The add says new not reconditioned. Priced at
199.00

So sorry to disappoint you, but:
1. "School model" sewing machines are one of the oldest scams in
the book.
2. $199 will not buy you a brand-new heavy-duty machine, but it
*would* buy you an older reconditioned heavy-duty machine if you hunt
until you find one.
3. A machine will sew or it will serge. One machine cannot do a
true serging stitch and still have all the functions of a regular sewing
machine.
