Hi!!!
I'm Jill and I'm getting married in September. I'm trying to make it easy
and inexpensive for my bridesmaids to be in my wedding. I am purchasing
my chosen color of silk dupioni for their dresses and allowing them to
choose a pattern that looks good on them that they will wear again (the
dresses will be knee or just-below-the-knee length). I found several
patterns online and am trying to give them options and do some leg-work
for them, because most of them don't sew. I do, but I don't know enough
to know which patterns you can substitute silk dupioni for and which you
can't. I'm wondering about three different patterns.
http://www.butterick.com/item/B4225.htm?search=4225&page=1 the recommended fabrics are: lightweight linen, lightweight crepe, challis
and faille
http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5315.htm?search=5315&page=1 the recommended fabrics are: cotton, cotton blends, lightweight linen and
soft faille
http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4440.htm?search=4440&page=1 the recommended fabrics are: cotton, cotton blends, linen, pique',
polished cotton, shantung
Thanks for your help!!!

Not this one: dupion would be a bit too crisp - not enough drape.

I think it's a bit too crisp for this one too. You run the risk of the
fabric standing out from the body and making all the girls look pregnant...

The best of the bunch: it's designed for the crisper fabrics.

These would also work in shantung/dupion:

Kate has suggested some good patterns. Soft pleats tend to show off
dupioni beautifully. It also does well in two piece dresses. Here
are a few other patterns I found.
I would choose the simplest option with the following and make the
skirt the desired length.

The following could be made to be symmetrical with two shoulders.

I'm not as sure about the following, but I like the idea of the
inverted pleats with this fabric.

Hi Jill,
I like the pattern Elaine has suggested the best. I notice most of the
suggested patterns are for sleeveless style tops. My question is where will
the wedding be, and what will the weather likely be like in September? Do
the b'maids need any little jacket or wrap if getting cool at that time of
year?
