HI everyone...

coming out of semi lurkdom to ask a question...

one of my parents friends has asked a favor.... a friend of hers sent
her a sweatshirt...that is too small. it has an iron photo of her
pet...her original idea was for me to cut out the pet and sew it onto
another shirt. i suggested if she wanted to do this...she buy a denim
shirt. instead, today i was presented with a very inexpensive nylon
windbreaker jacket with a lining.....

here are my thoughts--

i buy the denim shirt and do it, but i'm still not sure i'd be pleased
with the outcome...but then i thought....

what if i opened up under the sleeve from the cuff and run it down
each side and insert a long piece of coordinating sweatshirt
material. i could remove the bottom band and bind it with a
coordinating fabric. what do you guys think?

i'm really open to suggestions....

This is what I would do as long as you weren't adding more fabric than
what would come across as "racing stripes" and then you could applique
the same trim down the middle of the sleeves as well.

Alternatively, I would rather put it on another sweatshirt than a denim
shirt or a windbreaker, and I DEFINITELY would not put it on a windbreaker.

Every job is a self-portrait of the person who does it. Autograph your
work with excellence.

The lined nylon windbreaker would be a nightmare IMHO.

When my husband "outgrew" a favorite sports logo sweatshirt,
I cut out the logo and used a fine satin stitch zig-zag to
appliqué it onto a contrasting color sweatshirt (one that
picked up one of the colors in the logo). It lasted through
many many wearings, and washings, and he was very happy with
it.

Adding stripes down the sides is also a fairly good option.
Have you run any of these suggestions by the parent's
friend's friend? I wouldn't touch this project without
direct communication with the owner of the sweatshirt.

What's not to believe? That someone that age loves their
pet enough to have its picture on a clothing item? Or wears
sweatshirts? Or, has friends? Or...???

Beverly, who's 67 and feeling that 70 is not really *that*
old.
