Hi,

I'm making a cape/cloak for my youngest niece from a slightly stretchy
light-weight velour. Normally I would use my serger (Babylock Evolve) to sew
this, but there is a gap in the seam joining the front panels for a hand
hole (gap to put your hand through). Can I use the serger and leave a gap in
the seam, or will I have to use my sewing machine (HV designer 1)?

Thanks for your help,

Megwen

You'll get a better and neater finish on that slit if you serge the
edges of those panels and those particular seams on a standard machine:
use a small narrow zigzag and top-stitch the slits to keep the edges
neat. :)

Thanks, I thought that that would be the best way! I'm lining a dark royal
blue cloak with cerise faux silk, so I'm planning to top stitch the slits
with the pink. Can you tell that my niece LOVES pink?
