It's homecoming time of year again and my daughter wants me to make
her a dress with a lace overlay. She tried on several in the dept.
store and lace seems to be the "in" thing this year. We found a pretty
mauve lace and some matching polyester charmouse type fabric for the
dress. I have drafted a halter style dress with a dropped waist in
Pattern Master Boutique. I will make a quick muslin out of some fabric
from the stash.
Here are my questions -
1. Should I put in the darts in the lace fabric or fold them out
before I cut out the lace?

2. Should I do French seams in the lace? Or any other type of seam
would be better?

3. How should I attach the two layers together? I was thinking of just
laying them on top of each other and using the dress fabric as a
binding.

Any other advice on tackling this project would be appreciated.
Wish me luck as Homecoming is Saturday night!

Thanks for your help!!!

Is the lace layer to be totally separate, or just separate in the skirt?

For the first, make the two fabrics up almost like two separate dresses.
If the lace is a fine one, just sew the darts as if it were ordinary
fabric. For something like Cluny lace, you are better clipping and
lapping...

For the second, mount the lace on the bodice under fabric, sew as one,
and line. Make the two skirts up separately and sew together at the
dropped waist seam.

For light weight all-over lace I tend to use the serger for seams.
