Ok, so I have the patchwork jacket nearly finished and ready for entry
to the local fair (drop off day for judging is Tuesday 8-11am!!!), and
the apron is just about finished as well. Then there are the
alterations that need to be made on the clothing that I actually
bought for the children - mainly taking in "butt tucks" for my rather
thin daughter. My son, bless his heart, has finally gotten over 50
pounds and has decided that adjustable waist pants aren't evil,
especially when they are camo cargo pants...lol.

Here's where the added stress comes in....while away on vacation, I
had a request for a custom order through my Etsy store! Well, yay!
But when I'm supposed to fit this job in while trying to finish fair
entries and fix clothing for the children (school starts on the 18th),
is beyond me. Of course, hubby said he would help if he could, but he
hasn't sewn anything, even mending, since leaving the Navy.

Oh, and did I mention that I've been asked to do a brief chat on
emergency clothing repair aka repairs on the go. I'm only going to
speak for about 10 minutes, and really the focus is going to be on
what I did when I was in college full time and working full
time...double-sided tape and safety pins were the basics, but I also
carried clip earrings or dressy post earrings for when buttons
vanished....and the head craft lady also asked me to teach them how to
make tea cup pin cushions!!! In this area, I'm a little ahead because
I already have 2 samples made up. However, I am taking my entire tote
of quilting cottons and have cut up 5 templates for them to use. Then
I had to grab a bunch of needles, threads, buttons, embroidery
floss....hopefully the other lady remembered to pick up the fiber-fill
for the stuffing.

Man, it's nice to be needed, but does everyone need me at the same
dang time???

Larisa, I think life always comes at you like that. You
struggle to build a business, everything is so quiet you're
about to give it up and find a paying job, when suddenly ten
things that needed doing YESTERDAY come flying at your head.
Same thing happened to my stay-at-home-Mom graphics designer
DD. She promised her family's time putting in my new
flooring, when suddenly, out of the blue, she received
proposals for several really important "can't turn them
down" jobs. So she was able to come over for part of one
day, but most of the labor was provided by her DH and
children. Fortunately they have all done some similar work
before and they did a great job.

Good luck getting your items finished for the fair, your
children's clothing altered before school starts, and doing
the etsy job.

Thanks. I think I'm going to introduce both children to quick
clothing "alterations" and have THEM fix their own clothing this
year...lol....it's time for them to learn, don't you think??

As soon as I'm done dumping messages (checking to see if she has
specified which colors she wants), I'm in the sewing room and the
jacket WILL get finished!! Everything else is hung up with tags on
and ready to be delivered Tuesday morning. The things I need for
Monday's meeting are waiting by the front door, and that may or may
not go smoothly, but whatever, it's only a few minutes out of my life,
and if nobody is interested, well....their loss. I even got all the
things for my Etsy store/fall craft fair re-priced while I was
checking the current stock of boo boo bunnies.

Phew..ok, break time nearly over, so time to get the cup of tea made,
a bit of a snack, and back to work.....

Sure, I'm sure your son is old enough, I don't remember how
old your daughter is, but if you can start them on 'doable'
projects, go for it. Just try to remember (as I did NOT)
that their skills will not meet your standards for a while,
and if you pick at every little detail you'll turn them off
sewing for life. A major regret of mine is that I was not
able to impart my joy of sewing to either of my DDs, and
that was my fault.

Have you posted a link to your store? I'd love to see what
you are selling.

I hope you get everything done you have planned. And if
not, remember, tomorrow is another day...or something like
that. ;-)

Daughter is almost 6, son is 9.5 and both keep begging me to teach
them how to sew. I figure simple tucks in knit pants should be okay
for both of them (both have already done practice hand sewing).

Since there was so much to do, both for me and for hubby, we didn't go
to church this morning. Instead, he cut the back yard with the old-
style reel mower while I worked in the garage - we had to get it done
fast because the temps are the highest they've been in a while and
neither of us wanted the other to get winded or dehydrated. So, I
have a nicely cut back yard and the garage has 1 wall painted, and
only a small section that needs to be primed first. That section had
a cabinet on it, so I had to empty and move the cabinet, then hit the
seams and nail divets with the spackling compound. If all goes as I
hope, I will be able to get the second coat on the seam tonight and
sand down the nail areas, so it can get primed tomorrow (between
meeting and dd's doc appointment) and be ready for the paint. The
plan is to have the 2 walls finished (making light pencil marks at the
top for when we are ready to install the ceiling - don't ask) by
Wednesday, then I can worry about moving everything around in
preparation for this year's anniversary present - a chest freezer!!
Ok, so it's not a typical anniversary present, but hubby is VERY
encouraging in my efforts to cut back on grocery expenses and my
desire to freeze/can the veggies that we have growing in the garden,
so this is the perfect gift to each other....lol.

Right now is cool off/quiet time and I will probably snooze for 45
minutes, then get up and press out the patchwork jacket. Lining is in
and all that is really left is the top-stitching and buttons.
Everything else for the county fair has been labeled, and only 2
things really need to get pressed out.

Things for Monday's meeting are ready to get loaded into the van, with
all the templates, etc. binned with fabric. I need to come up with
something quick to hand out when I talk about the emergency clothing
repair, but since it's really not going to be a long discussion, maybe
I'll just skip this.

website....hang on so I can get the link correct....lol:

www.LRVCustomCreations.etsy.com

that should get you to the shop, and I know that you can look around
without becoming a member. I will be updating the website by the end
of the month because some things are getting completely clearanced out
and others are going to be taken off completely, not to mention the
new items that I will be listing.

Ok, time to finish here, check messages and take a quick recharge!
