My youngest made his first garment at age 4. The older ones were more
like 6 when they did. They are old enough provided you give them ample
supervision.

Sadly, I'm sure that's how my children remember my sewing
lessons. Instead of allowing the small errors to pass, and
work on it "next time", I tended to require un-picking and
re-sewing. After a few of those, neither was interested
anymore.
And yet,... I was taught by my perfectionist (professional
sewist) mother. She insisted on quality work, and in spite
of many hours of frustration and doing over, I learned to
sew (well) and to LOVE to sew. My sister, on the other hand,

loathed it, and does not sew to this day. <shrug>

But you sound cheerful rather than stressed to the bone, so chin up at
get to it! It'll be manic while it lasts, but shedloads of fun.
