I like to use sheets, but the question for you is what is you want to do
in the way of a curtain?

They're really easy. 6' X 6', with 12 evenly spaced vertical buttonholes
at the top. Sheets work great, and have the added virtue of being
hemmed already on one end. Just use that as the bottom hem, especially
if it has some sort of embellishment, and then add about 5" at the top
for a hem, and about an inch on each side (2" total) so you can hem the
sides.

To add to what others have already said.... It's a very good idea to
reinforce the top hem where the buttonholes will go. The last one I made, I
put a strip of canvas duck along the top edge, turned that top hem down
enclosing the canvas, did the buttonholes. Then I edgestitched the top
edge. The shower curtain never ripped on one of the buttonholes... not even
with 2 kids being the primary users of it for 6 years. ;)

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of time and just annoys the
pig.

I'm sorry if this is totally obvious, but you can use a clear plastic liner
on the same hooks as the curtain. Then the curtain can be any fabric you
like, and it hangs outside the tub.
