I see via google (Yukkk, so much spam!!!) that my message came through
and Beverly managed to reply, thank you.
However nothing has come at all into my thunderbird box. Occasionally
thunderbird shows me 40 messages have ben posted but when I enter the
alt.sewing dossier nothing loads in that is new. I have tried leaving
the group and then joining again but this makes no difference
unfortunately. So I have contacted my internet supplier in case it's
their fault. Other than that it's a mystery.

Check your settings in Thunderbird. Go to Tools, Account Settings,
Server Settings and see if you are downloading new messages. Then, if
you like, you can go to Offline and Disk Space, and set when and if you
want messages deleted. I hope this solves your problem!

Each day I get very few messages. I might get 3 or 4 and then get a LOT of
spam.

Since I left att.net and went to this one, I get very little spam.
Somedays, I only get 2-3 messages, and other days like today, I receive 30+,
but I am not going to Google, I will just wait.

Claire, I don't know anything about setting up Thunderbird's
newsreader. I use Outlook Express for reading newsgroups,
and many days it shows 20-30 new messages, but by the time
eternal.september.org filters and my own filters and blocked
sender's list gets done with them only 2 or 3 actually
download. The group has been pretty quiet, I suspect a case
of late-summer doldrums. ;-)
