I bought some 1/2 in wide elastic with buttonholes in it. I know for
what purpose I bought it, but for what is it intended? I bought it to
make extensions on those days I BLOAT and my pants don't fit; is that
the purpose?

I bought it off the roll at the shop so there are no instructions, I
couldn't ask the clerk because she doesn't speak English. If I asked in
German, I wouldn't understand her answer.

A very good use! I'm currently living on the stuff (expanding waistline
due to pregnancy). Also useful in childrens clothes in the waistline.

My maternity trousers have the elastic free at both left and right, with
a button each side for adjustment - the first thing I did was sew the
ends of the elastic down so it won't vanish into the waistband when I
unbutton it!
