Kuse Handloom began as an artistic hobby practiced and refined by three
generations of weavers living outside Buenos Aires, Argentina.
What began as a hobby soon blossomed into newer and more
contemporary designs and eventually an important means of economic
independence. In December, 2001 Argentina`s economy collapsed causing
many people to find new ways of making a living. Like many others
across Argentina, the weavers of Kuse organized and began using their
art form as a means of earning a living wage in a depressed
economy.
Since Kuse Handloom is a family business and the articles produced from
home the weavers are able to set their own prices and work flexible
hours around the needs of the household. The recognition as artists
contributing to society outside of the home is of equal value to the
economic support these women can now bring to their families.
Becoming part of the world market has lead to a consciousness of
sustainability. Thus Kuse Handloom is offering its new line of
organic natural woven and knit articles as well as the original line of
finely made wool, acrylic, and silk products.
Having started as a hobby and continued for the love of the craft,
the quality of Kuse`s products are exquisite.
Based outside the city of Buenos Aires, original contemporary
designs are part of Kuse`s ever-expanding repertoire as well as a
commitment to conserving traditional woven designs.
Kuse Handloom looks forward to expanding and including more of the
community in its future growth.
