Hi -

I just got a Singer sewing machine as a hand-me-down from my sister. Is
there a page which displays a large number of models so I might make a
guess as to which model corresponds to mine?

Where would I look for the model number on the machine?

Is it an old black iron one, or a newer metal or plastic cased one?

For the old black ones, you can go to the Singer web site and look up
the model from the serial number (on the bed of the machine in front of
the pillar).

If it is an older machine (pre-1950) there might not be a model number
on it. If you look on the right side of the machine where the stitch
length is there might be a number there, depending on the model. There
might be a number or word for the model across the top. Maybe Merritt
or Touch and Sew. A little more description of the machine would help.
There are some good photos of older models on my page:

Wandering along the edges of rec.crafts.textiles.sewing, I found the

OK, it's a 6234. I don't have a manual. Is there one on the web?

Considering your sarcastic treatment of the helpful response you received, I
suspect you might a dearth of help in the future. I, for one, have no
interest in supplying any advice to you who seems to, on the one hand, need
the most elemental assistance maneuvering the web and its many resources,
and on the other hand, seems very crafty at inserting pithy phrases into
newsgroup postings. I fear you are a lazy charlatan. Have a nice day.
