Would love to get one of my wife's machines up and running, but am
seeking advice before I take them to a repair shop not knowing it might
have been something simple . . .
Singer model 3820: Manual turn wheel jams as needle enters hook area,
but no visible contact with any parts below, bobbin wheel and holder
cleaned and reinserted. Wheel will turn unobstructed in the opposite
direction (CW).
Brother Model VX 1120: Will not bring bobbin thread through the plate.
Hook catches thread but as it winds, the thread gets caught while it's
coming across the bobbin holder front.
Any ideas???
Thanks so much,
Phil

May well be something simple, this sounds like the point of the hook is
cathing on something, most likely the bobbin case. Check it carefully for
damage all surfaces must be perfectly smooth. The clearance adjustments on
these can be tricky.

Consult the users manual and be sure it is threaded propely and insert a new
needle the correct way.

Something similar happened to me. I took it to the shop and was
embarrassed to find it was threaded incorrectly. It looked right, but
it wasn't.
