my kenmore has been great to me for many years with no prob until a
few weeks ago. i was working with heavy fabric, the right needle and
all, when my machine started making this horrible noise and just
wouldn't move and the thread just passed over the bobbin case and
wouldn't thread. i tested everything.. the tension, re-thread, cleaned
all the lint etc. finally i decided it was time to take it to the
shop.
so i just got it back.. worked nicely for about 5 mins. then it gets
stuck. now the thread keeps winding around the bobbin case until it
almost knots and nothing will move. this is very frustrating! i payed
so much to get it repaired and now their telling me to bring it back
in for another 2 weeks! has anybody had this? can i just fix it myself?

Check what guarantee the repair has. If there's a guarantee on the
repair, you should have no bother getting it fixed, though you may have
to pay for any part needed. If not, get a firm diagnosis and estimate
of repair costs (parts and labour) before deciding if this is worth doing.

I don't know if you took your machine to a local shop, or to Sears
repair service. If you took the machine to Sears, this sort of thing
is not unexpected. I have had Sears products for decades (as did my
parents).. In many instances, their appliance products are fine, but
the repair people are terrible and they tend to be poorly trained. I
have seen this time and time again, in a number of different states. I
have had much better luck with local repair people.

However, in this instance, I would say that where ever you had the
machine repaired, they should stand behind their faulty repair, and
repair the machine for no labor charges (parts only).

You do not say if after you got it back you started working on the same
project that caused the problem to start with.
You may be using to heavy a thread for the machine. Also may have
mis-threaded it.
