Olwyn Mary spun a FINE 'yarn':

+Perhaps those of us who do like Mary Monica don't like your tone, either. She
is not only a well-known author (see www.Monica-Ferris.com)but particpates quite
a lot on rctn - when she is not deep in the throes of writing, that is.

Olwyn Mary. . .
I KNOW who she is, Olwyn Mary. BUT, an author of her caliber should
acknowledge the assistance, not offer a pithy prize.
For that matter, why does an author of her caliber NEED any assistance at all?
Just my two pence,
Noreen

My goodness, you *ARE* anxious to get your point of view across, aren't
you? Three times!! Would it not have been simpler to quietly not
particpate?

oh, stop it, Noreen. if you don't want to play, then just
don't.
authors of series type books frequently have little
'contests' for their readers. it helps the reader feel even
more connected to the series. often there is no prize
involved, or just a token one. the author may, at his/her
discretion, give a credit to the "winner" in the book's
dedication (i have 2 books dedicated to me, neither by my
actual name & i'm the model for the cover of another book (&
series of comic books), with no mention at all). it has
*nothing* to do with an author *needing* assisstance &
everything to do with involving the readers in a different
way.
i just don't get the sour grapes tone here. sorry.

one dedication was for making the author a peach pie (but i
didn't get one for the shoofly pie. hmmmm.), one was for
giving him an idea for a plotline (we were driving to NYC in a
blizzard. lots of time to bounce ideas). i'm also a character

in that book (the bad guy <g>).
the comic covers were the artist trying to get my attention
(it worked!). the bookcover was the same artist.
actually my hands are in a few other works he's done as well.
i'm good at holding things i guess.
