A long time ago I knit my husband a pair of gloves that the trigger finger
was bare. Does anyone know where I can find a pattern for these that are
knit on 2 needles. My grandson now hunts. That's how long ago I had this
pattern

Over on the Antique Pattern Library is a scan of a book called
"Knitting and Sewing, How to Make Seventy Useful Articles for Men in
the Army and Navy" from 1918. It has many interesting glove patterns
for the different tasks military men found themselves doing (including
"Rifle Mittens" and "Mine Sweeper's Gloves").

It's the third item from the bottom on this page:
http://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/knittingpubs.htm

It's quite a large download (11.5MB and it's served rather slowly) but
a fascinating document. It doesn't have exactly what you want but you
may find it interesting.

Of course you could knit a regular glove pattern but treat the trigger
finger as you would on a fingerless glove pattern (just a few rows of
ribbing instead of a full finger). You could easily adapt the "Cigar"
pattern from Knitty too I think:

Donna,

My brothers hunt and I seem to remember that their hunting gloves had a
trigger finger with a slot at the base that they could slip their
finger out of in order to squeeze the trigger. Then they could put
their finger back in the glove when they weren't shooting so that
finger could be warm. Maybe you could just make a regular pair of
gloves and treat that area like a button hole.

Bare trigger finger? I have never seen any like that. But I have
patterns for mittens with a trigger finger.

You might try Googling for finger mittens: I saw some that looked like
short-fingered gloves with a mitten flap that you could pull over the
fingers, at REI.

Good luck.
