I was recently at a yarn event at a local yarn shop and I won a Knifty
Knitter II in a raffle. I was going to donate it to my wife's school
but tonight I was looking over some scrap yarn and decided to give it a
try while watching my favorite baseball team.

Anyway, the hat I made turned out great! Perfect stitches and nice
finish. Although it certainly no substitute for my bamboo needles, I
do have to admit the end product was nice and worked up rapidly.

Maybe if'n someone is wondering about the joy of knitting this might be
a way to jump in the shallow end and get some quick results, eh?

Yep. I bought the entire set a year ago before I finally got brave enough
to knit on sticks.

The kids like them too, but they're having problems finishing their
projects.

my 5 year old really enjoys his Nifty Knitters. he made
himself a hat & is working on a scarf for his great grandma.
it's great for working on his fine motor issues & fast enough
to give him a sense of accoplishment *and* prevent boredom.
it's a good way to introduce kids to knitting, i think.

I wish every school could adopt a program of knitting/crochet to help
develop fine motor skills. The Waldorf school, I believe, has done
some research showing that needlecrafts improve fine motor skills big
time.
