Just wanted to pop in for a moment and express my thanks to any VETERANS here
(Dennis, this means YOU, buddy!), and tell ya'll of our Memorial Day weekend
and plans for tomorrow yet...
We visited Vets today at the Veteran's Home in the 'Boro, and will attend two
parades tomorrow AM, then will attend a memorial service at the Military
Cemetary.
Hugs,
Noreen

Ah, now it begins to make sense - this is Memorial Day Weekend in the
States, I assume?
I genuinely didn't know that and it was very confusing all the
references to patriotism on what is for the UK (and most of Europe?) a
religious holiday called Whitsun!
And I think I recall that in the States it is officially summer in
between Memorial Day and Labor Day which is the equivalent of our late
August Bank Holiday?
You can learn a lot from usenet! ;-)

Indeed you can nickie :-)
Noreen thank you so much for clarifying this. In the UK we hold
Remembrance Day on the second Sunday in November. Here is some
information on ours
http://www.cultureandrecreation.gov.au/articles/remembrance/ and here is one for what we teach our children
http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/Remembrance.html
Now that I know what is happening your side of the pond I shall pray for
your soldiers, both alive and dead, as I do for ours. There are many
in their ranks who deserve our respect.

Here in Canada we have Rememberance Day on November 11th every year. But
whenever a country is celebrating a memorial for their servicemen/women I
too join in and say a prayer for those who died for freedom, those who are
still away from their homes now, and those who thankfully made it back from
their time serving their countries.
*hugs*

Not Likely. . .
In November we have another rememberance, which originally was termed Armistice
Day, now called Veteran's Day, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th
month.... (signifying the end of WWII)
I try to do as you do, and remember ALL soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines
who've served THEIR countries honorably in the name of freedom.
