not to be nitpicky, but Buffalo is 'western' NY, not
'upstate' :)
it is a bit early to get that much snowfall (the snowband was
only 15 miles wide!), but snow by now in October is not
uncommon.
there is a contest every year between Buffalo, Rochester &
Syracuse for the most snow. i think Buffalo wanted the early
lead...

Yes -- this is really early -- it was on tv because it was a record.
We have warm weather here during the day - no snow where I am. I guess
the worst of it was around Buffalo NY. It was wet and heavy. Lots of
trees damaged.
