I slip one knit one on the knit row. When I come to the last knit one slip
one, I bring my yarn from the knit side to the purl side between the last
two stiches, before I slip the last stich. Now I turn my work and purl
across. When you come the the last stitch on your needle, again take your
yarn between the two last stitches to the knit side from your purl side of
your work, slip the last stich and turn. Knit one slip one across.
Repeat those to rows, until your flap is the right length. This method,
shown to me by a guild members, creates lovely little stitches on either
side of the heel flap, easy to pick up when turnign your heel
