The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, is hosting an open day on Saturday 7
March 2009, to showcase current research and practice in ethnobotany.
There will be about 20 displays such as topics including wild foods
and medicines and basket-making, but of greatest relevance to readers
of this list, we are putting on a large display of mainly 19th C.
ethnographic textiles and fibres drawn from Kew's Economic Botany
Collection, staffed by students from the Textile Conservation Centre
in Winchester. It's a great opportunity to see some striking pieces
and talk to those involved in their care.
The event is suitable for all ages, families welcome.
The event runs 11am to 4pm and entry is FREE, so long as an e-ticket
is pre-booked by emailing education@therai.org.uk
Kew Gardens is in southwest London, UK, easily accessible by road and
public transport.
