One place I googled gave an explanation similar to this: (and no, it's not
nice)

That the person talks so much, she must breathe through her ears. To me
that makes more sense than "airhead".

Another one had to do with an opera singer..... that she held her notes so
long, she must breathe through her ears.

Just ignore him Noreen. It's not worth it.

Were you singing? It's something people say about really good
singers, that you can't tell they're breathing because they hold the
notes so long. I've not heard it used as an insult, but he might have
meant that you talk too much.

He AND my sister COULD'VE been jealous tho, being that *I* and my cousin Fran
were highly complimented at mother's 80th birthday party....
