My favorite tote is a funky orange/blue/green/purple/white striped
thing I saw hanging up in a store in the mall called Underground.
(Does anyone else know about this store?) It's not the type of place I
would normally go into (aimed at teenagers and early 20's alternative
types), but the bag called my name. It was on sale for 6 bucks! It
has little metal feet on the bottom, and sort of stands up. It's large
enough for a medium sized project, a water bottle, keys and misc.
stuff, has one small zipper pocket where I put scissors, measuring
tape, change, whatever. It's too short for long needles, so if my
project needs bigger needles, I just use circs. I love my bag, even if
it's not the most functional thing in the world!

Today I saw an episode of "Knitty Gritty" on television. They showed
how to knit a tote bag from strips of plastic bags (the sort that come
from the grocery store here in the United States) tied together into a
long continuous strand. It was very simple - just two rectangles for
the panels and a long "scarf" for the bottom and sides. Sew together
with another piece of the strip and add a couple handles of thin
leather (shoe-laces, perhaps). I thought it was quite clever.

Hee Joy that sounds lovely as well ..
Ps an VERY old sweater of mine just decided to end life ,,, i think i
wiil felt it and use as botton for another thing .....maybe a bag .
somehow i don`t feel like knitting a bag , but using a used up sweater
for it seems rational ,,,
